A few weeks ago I presented here the book “Beyond the Wall. Art and Artifacts from the GDR”. The book was published by the Wende Museum in LA and so I started some research. I want to know what a museum this is that so far away from Germany and the Eastern bloc deals with the artifacts and the history of these countries.

It’s once again time to present you here an English book about the GDR. Today it’s a very special one. Not only the content but also the size and the layout are something special. It is the biggest book out of our library and the one with the most pictures. And, I think, it’s one of the most expensive ones, too. On 904 pages you can see in this book 2500 artifacts, design pieces and everyday objects from the East German Collection of the “Wende Museum” in Los Angeles.

In Germany you can find a lot of museums which deal with the topic Cold War and the division into the two blocs. Besides that there are a lot online offers in German regarding this topic, too. But not only in Germany there is a deep interest in that topic. Some miles away, across the pond, you can find a museum which handled the topic Cold War.

Because of being one of the most interactive museums in the world, our visitors will find a variety of interactive games inside of exhibition. In the future I would like to introduce one of them at irregular intervals. Until now, I never had the time to play all the games! This is why I am looking forward to try out the games unhasty.

Exactly six years and four days ago the DDR Museum opened! This might not be such a long time for a museum but since I am one of the very first employees at the museum, this is an opportunity to look back at my personal highlights.

The last few days were turbulent! The daily routine was influenced by working on the exhibition, press events, preparations for the opening celebration, the opening party itself, excitement and unrest. Slowly, the calm comes back...

It gets more and more difficult to find pictures, which do not give to much away. But I have good news for you: The DDR Museum opens it`s new exhibition space on the 10th of October! After 10 am, you have the chance to get a picture of the exhibition yourself. :)

Because of our visitors suggestions, we built a new bookcase for our theme area "Culture". Inside, the visitor finds interesting or popular GDR literature. Of course, you are allowed to touch or read the books.

I would like to show you some pictures of our new Volvo! It was a state carriage in the GDR and was restored during the last months. It will be an exhibit in our new exhibition and like the Trabi, the visitors are allowed to touch it and to get in.
