Party and State

The DDR Museum is located in the former centre of East German power. A one-hour museum tour is followed by a further hour visiting the site of the former Palace of the Republic, the Council of State and the Headquarters of the Socialist Unity Party.

The Karl-Marx-Allee boulevard

A one-hour tour of the DDR Museum is followed by a two-hour tour of East Germany‘s most prestigious boulevard. The residential buildings were meant to herald the triumph of Socialism, yet they are first and foremost a reminder of the workers' uprising of 17th June 1953.

Life in the capital of the GDR

Economic shortage, anti-Fascism and the niche society: This two-hour tour traces the everyday life of a lost world by visiting historical locations in Berlin.

This three-hour tour traces the events of the mass uprising in East Berlin on 17th June 1953 and takes its participants to the historical locations of protest and repression. The tour remembers the 55 victims who died for the cause of better working conditions.

Contemporary witness talks

Please feel free to book a talk with a contemporary witness on site or online (Zoom etc.).

Talks by GDR contemporary witnesses offer a first-hand account of life in East Germany. Audiences can ask the speakers questions and gain a deeper appreciation of the unique quality of life in East Germany. We provide contemporary witnesses to speak on almost any aspect of life in the GDR. Popular topics include everyday life in the GDR, school life, work, oppositional activities and stasi imprisonment.

Contemporary witness talks are also available in a number of foreign languages.
