The DDR Museum has a new cooperation partner: We are happy to announce that we will be realizing projects along with the Hochschule für Technik und Wirtschaft Berlin, which is a great opportunity to contribute to the connection between cultural institutions and educational establishments in Berlin!

The cooperation will include both tutors as well as students of the Museumskunde degree at the HTW Berlin working on contents which are related to the DDR Museum; both in theory as well as in practice. In return we will assist the students with the professional expertise of our colleagues (especially from the collection department), insights into the daily museum business as well as the opportunity to transfer theoretical knowledge into practice at the DDR Museum.

Interesting Projects with the HTW during the coming semester

In the context of the subjects “Qualitative Visitor Research” and “Visitor Service” the students will repeatedly visit our exhibition in order to do research on the habits of our visitors. The gathered information is of significance in order to analyze and evaluate the structure of our visitors, the time of their visit, length of stay as well as the use of our numerous exhibition elements. One of the tools for the research is an interview which will be developed by the students and filled in by our guests at the end of their visit. The results will then be discussed and evaluated within the class. The subject “Inventory and Documentation” teaches the students how to “read” objects in the museum context. This is achieved by documenting the exact external characteristics of the object such as size and material (also referred to as intrinsic data) as well as all information relevant to the history of the artifact such as origin, former use or former owner (also referred to as extrinsic data). The students will work with objects out of the collection of the DDR Museum and will learn how to make cultural assets accessible so future generations will benefit from the comprehensive documentation. At best the results gathered by the students will be incorporated into our exhibition.

We are looking forward to an inspiring cooperation with the students and tutors of the HTW Berlin and are curious about the research results.
