Berlin, 22 December 2022 - The positive news first: the cultural assets of the DDR Museum have not suffered any permanent damage. Due to the destruction of the »AquaDom« on the morning of 16 December 2022 and the damage to the building, technical installations in particular are out of order and need to be repaired or replaced. However, we expect to be able to reopen on 1 April at the latest.
On Friday morning, the so-called »AquaDom« in the Radisson Collection Hotel burst. Large quantities of salt water have thus also penetrated into the exhibition of the DDR Museum, which is located below the hotel complex directly on the banks of the Spree. The result is not inconsiderable water damage, which is why we regrettably had to close the museum for the time being after the aquarium disaster.
The team of the DDR Museum immediately moved all cultural assets to safety and is currently working to repair the extensive structural damage as quickly as possible. The owner of the building is doing everything in his power to support our museum. We are already looking forward with all our guests to the reopening of the museum in the second quarter. Of course, online tickets already purchased remain valid.
We will keep you informed about developments and news on our website and via social media. Our press department is always available to answer journalistic questions.
