Long Night of the Museums 2023

Under the motto »Born in the G.D.R.«, we will be opening our museum doors for the Long Night of the Museums 2023 with a vibrant and special programme.
The song title comes from 1989 by the Cottbus punk band Sandow and was a response to the song »Born in the U.S.A.« by Bruce Springsteen from 1984. From popular dance music and underground to classic workers' songs, there will be something for every musical taste.
In our cinema we will show highlights from the 1988 film »Whispering and Screaming«, a documentary road movie that takes you through the underground music scene of the GDR. Director Dieter Schumann accompanies bands like Feeling B and Chicoreé on their concert tours across a country in turmoil.

Music quiz with record entertainers Eric & Patrick

Our collection team Eric Strohmeier-Wimmer and Patrick Opitz will slip into the role of record entertainers and conduct an exciting GDR music quiz with our visitors* at the party table.

Short guided tour: Favourite objects on the theme of music presented by exhibition director Sören Marotz 
Short guided tour with Sören Marotz – the exhibition manager of the DDR Museum will guide you to the most interesting exhibits on the topic of music, which includes our Bruce Springsteen diorama.
Meeting point: Berlin Wall
Time: 19.00, 21.00, 23.00

Tour of new exhibition areas:
Short guided tour by Dr Stefan Wolle – our academic director will present our new exhibition areas. A special highlight is the six-metre wide, original Berlin Wall as well as the themed sections »German Division« and »GDR Compact«.

Time: 18.00, 19.30

Let us take you away to the Long Night with »Born in the G.D.R.«. On this eventful evening, you can learn about some of the GDR's many musical highlights and experience the new exhibition section of the DDR Museum.
