A new generation has new questions for history. In Katja Hoyer's case, there is also the connection between the view from the outside and her biographical background. She was born in the GDR in 1985, studied history in Jena and then went to England, where she worked as a journalist and historian. Now she returns to the GDR with her book and describes the everyday life of the people, their worries, problems and hopes. The result is a »new history of the GDR«, which was published in London in 2022 under the title ”Beyond the Wall« and is now also appearing in German.
