Berlin, 17 June 2025 – From 1 July 2025, the DDR Museum will be dedicating the exhibition »Westgeld at last!« to a key moment in German history: the introduction of the Deutschmark in the GDR. With the provocative statement »If the DM comes, we stay. If it doesn't, we'll go to it.« the exhibition focuses on the day of monetary union as the actual moment of unity. It shows how the Deutschmark changed life in the East – with all its hopes, disruptions and consequences to this day. An exhibition experience that makes everyday history tangible and invites discussion.
