The East lives on!? The GDR Museum visits Weißensee for one evening

Berlin, 6 August 2025 – Two genuine »Ossis« in conversation: Renowned journalist Petra Schwarz and Gordon Freiherr von Godin, director of the DDR Museum, engage with the audience over a glass of wine from the Graf Adelmann winery. The evening in Weißensee promises a special encounter with history and the present.

Questions such as the following will be addressed: Why does the »GDR issue« still polarise opinion today? Which stories are told – and which are not? And what does »East German identity« mean more than three decades after the fall of the Berlin Wall?

An exciting evening with insights, anecdotes, and perspectives on a piece of German history that is far from over.

The GDR Museum in Berlin-Mitte is one of the most visited museums in the capital. It offers visitors a vivid insight into everyday life in the GDR – beyond clichés and political romanticisation.

You can also look forward to an exclusive wine tasting from the Graf Adelmann winery.
