Berlin, 7 January 2026 – To mark the 100th anniversary of International Green Week, the DDR Museum is part of the new initiative »BERLIN IS NOT GERMANY«. Together with traditional Berlin businesses, the initiative is committed to creating a distinctive profile for the capital – against arbitrariness, for history, taste and lived identity.
The joint exhibition stand presents Berlin as a city with character. A unique design concept brings together players from the worlds of culture, gastronomy, crafts and trade. Participants include the Berlin TV Tower, various breweries, Mampe Spirituosen, BRYX Toys, Barletta ice cream, Hauptstadtkultur – and the DDR Museum.
The DDR Museum displays an original segment of the Berlin Wall on site. Visitors have the opportunity to become a »wall peckers« themselves and acquire an authentic piece of the wall with a hammer and chisel. Historian Eric Stohmeier-Wimmer, collection manager at the DDR Museum, provides direct access to the GDR. He talks about food culture in the GDR, subsidised food and supply shortages.
The team at Berlin's TV Tower and the Sphere revolving restaurant are attracting attention with their culinary offerings. These are complemented by classic Berlin beers and traditional products from Mampe. Berlin's largest coffee machine and artisan ice cream from Barletta-Eis GmbH round off the range.
A special highlight is the over seven-metre-high television tower made of building blocks, constructed by BRYX. With a varied stage programme, the stand becomes a lively meeting place where visitors can immerse themselves in Berlin's history, present and future.
