A Barkas hits the racetrack. DDR Museum starts at the Saxon Meister-Classic Rallye

Berlin, 13 May 2025 – From 23 to 25 May 2025, the DDR Museum will be taking part in the Saxon Master Classic Rally with its historic Barkas B1000. For the fifth time, the classic car rally will lead through the picturesque »Land of Castles and Palaces« in central Germany – a highlight for technology enthusiasts and motorsport fans.
Sören Marotz, Exhibition Director of the DDR Museum, will once again be at the wheel of the Barkas, accompanied by co-pilot Ute Illig. Together they will compete as »Team DDR Museum« and represent the museum as a cultural ambassador on wheels.
According to Uwe Schmidt from the KFZ-Innung Sachsen West/Chemnitz, who is heavily involved in the organisation, the rally is about much more than just technology and speed: »Even for the anniversary, the rally remains true to its motto »Motors. People. Passion.« true.«
This year's grand finale will take place in the Motorsport Arena Mülsen - the place where the DDR Museum team took first place out of around 85 starters in last year's special stage organised by the motor vehicle guild. Proof: A Barkas can also race on the track!

Starting signal in Berlin:
The »Team DDR Museum« will set off for the rally in front of the museum in Berlin as early as Thursday, 22 May 2025. Media representatives and interested visitors are cordially invited to be there live at the start.
