Between 1990 and 1992 the journalist and author
Michael Kleff travelled through a vanishing country and asked artists in East Germany for their experiences and expectations. It was about coping with their own past in the DDR, but also about the problems of livelihood. The Peaceful Revolution of 1989 undoubtedly brought a liberation of art and artists. But in the rapid merger with the Federal Republic a lot of culture was lost. The interviews with 30 songwriters and cabaret artists from the first months of the post-reunification period provide new insights into the historic events that mark their 30th anniversary in 2019.
