Cooperation event with the Leibniz Institute for Spatial Social Research e.V.
To the sounds of the Puhdys song "Wenn ein Mensch lebt" ("When a person's alive") old buildings collapse to make room for modern but sterile new ones – such as in the cult film "The Legend of Paul and Paula" from 1973. The old will be overcome and new cities proclaim the happiness of the people.
However, also difficulties and problems were portraied against the background of construction sites. The "Trail of Stones", a 1966 film title, ran like a central theme through DEFA's contemporary drama. The films tell of the dreariness of prefabricated housing, of demolition, decay, new construction and the search for open spaces.
