Revised new edition for the 35th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall and the Peaceful Revolution.
Since its opening in 2006, the DDR Museum in the heart of Berlin has been following a special path. The exhibition tells of the reality of life for the people who lived in this country. It does so without whitewashing or demonising. This book also endeavours to do the same. It aims to be more than a museum catalogue, namely a kind of travel guide through the maze of conflicting memories. It presents the current state of research and public debate on the GDR in a comprehensible form and offers food for thought for further engagement with the past and the future of our society.
Divided into ten subject areas, the book describes the various aspects of life in the GDR in short, concise and richly illustrated articles. 21 "special objects" from the permanent exhibition are presented and provide a common thread running through the DDR Museum's exhibition.
The publication is suitable for preparing a trip to Berlin, but also useful for visitors who want to deepen their knowledge after walking through the exhibition.
The book will be published on 15 July 2024!
