Amiga: Vinyl sound of the east

Since its foundation in 1947, »Amiga« has been the GDR's only label for light music of all kinds. The spectrum ranged from Schlager to jazz and folk to beat, rock and pop. The more than 7,000 LPs and singles are a mirror of the cultural history of the GDR. However, both the in-house productions and the licensed pressings were not only intended to bring in money, but were often also a political issue. Peter Wicke, professor emeritus of music at Humboldt University, and the last »Amiga« boss, Jörg Stempel, talk about the vinyl sound of the East along a new online publication.
