Old, new city centre

Berlin's urban planning is again working on the area between the television tower and the banks of the Spree currently. Reason enough to look back. The old historical centre of the city has been the subject of planning, demolition and new buildings since the war damage until today. Should the representative buildings of the capital be built in the old centre of East Berlin or should a metropolitan forum be created? The frequent changes in building policy are at the same time a reflection of the changing functions of architecture and urban planning in the DDR.

Lecture and discussion:

Dr. phil. Ulrich Hartung, architectural historian, Berlin
Sören Marotz, head of exhibition DDR Museum, Berlin
