I am the rabbit

Ban and rediscovery of a classic

Banned in 1965, forgotten for decades – and today a classic of GDR literature and film history: the DEFA film »Das Kaninchen bin ich«, based on the novel by Manfred Bieler, fell victim to the 11th Plenum of the Central Committee of the SED in December 1965. Although the novel was published in the Federal Republic of Germany in 1969, it attracted little attention there. It was recently republished by Jaron Verlag's »Berlin Library«. On the 60th anniversary of the »Kahlschlagplenum«, Dr Stefan Wolle, leading actress Angelika Waller and publisher Arnt Cobbers talk about censorship, political ruptures and personal experiences.

Dr. Stefan Wolle, Historian DDR Museum, Frankfurt (Oder)
Angelika Waller, Actress, Berlin
Arnt Cobbers, Head of Jaron Verlag, Berlin
