Book launch with Stefan Wolle
From the day the Berlin Wall fell, two worlds collided in Berlin that could scarcely have been more different. The capital of the socialist GDR merged with West Berlin, the symbol of the Free World. Parallel to political and economic unification, there was an explosion of cultural activity, new ideas and creative ventures. At the same time, economic and social problems such as a housing shortage and unemployment mounted. It was during this period that the now-famous phrase »Berlin is poor but sexy« came into being. The city became a laboratory for reunification and all its problems. In his new book, historian Dr Stefan Wolle vividly recounts the story of this transformation from 1990 to the present day.
The author, the renowned GDR historian and long-standing academic director of the DDR Museum, Dr. Stefan Wolle, talks to the BeBra publisher, contemporary historian Dr. Dirk Palm, about his new book on Berlin.
