Motorbike Exhibition

With over 300,000 objects, the DDR Museum owns the world's largest collection about the GDR. In our building at Rochstrasse 14 between Hackescher Markt and Alexanderplatz, on 800 squared metres, an exclusive insight into the collection of the DDR Museum awaits you: On display are more than 130 restored motorbikes, scooters, mopeds and trailers spanning 40 years of GDR two-wheeler production.

In 2008, the private house opened as Berlin's 1st GDR Motorbike Museum in the historic viaduct arches and is now part of the DDR Museum.

The machines and many other thematic exhibits take you on a journey through the technical and design history of DDR motorbikes, which begins with the predecessors from the 1930s and ends with the closure of the manufacturer MZ in 2008.

Extensive collection of DDR two-wheeler production

In addition to widely used two-wheelers such as the »Schwalbe«, rarities are also on display e.g., a Simson motorbike from the escort of the Ministry of the Interior of the GDR, of which only 30 were produced; or the disabled vehicle »Duo 4-1«, which was exclusively allocated via the IFA Directorate as well as the state insurance of the GDR.

Background texts on individual objects, atmospheric installations and historical photo and advertising material complement the permanent exhibition of the DDR Museum in the area of GDR motorbike production. The exhibition covers two floors in the historic viaduct arches just a 5-minute walk from the DDR Museum.
