In Germany you can find a lot of museums which deal with the topic Cold War and the division into the two blocs. Besides that there are a lot online offers in German regarding this topic, too. But not only in Germany there is a deep interest in that topic. Some miles away, across the pond, you can find a museum which handled the topic Cold War.

The German Bundestag offers on its’ homepage a lot of information about the history of the German parliamentarism. From its beginning till today there are articles, photos and historical documents. This information is available in German, but also in some other languages, for example in English and French.

The public foreign country radio of Germany is the Deutsche Welle (DW). Besides the audios, which are broadcasted in different languages, the Deutsche Welle has a huge online offer in 30 languages. You can find on the homepage news and a lot of information around Germany. And besides that, you can find a widespread proposal regarding the German history.

I search for information about the GDR in general, the Berlin Wall or about some specific topics like the year 1989 or so. lIn our blog we try to give hints for foreign-language people which are interested in GDR history. We presented books or translate some of our blog articles into English. A new category we want to open for you is a hint to websites, institutions or museums which deal with the GDR in English or another foreign language.

In the last months we supported a project of students, which I want to present you. Students of media technology of the “Hochschule für Technik, Wirtschaft und Kultur” in Leipzig created the Homepage www.ddr-medien.de. The DDR Museum was on hand with help and advice for the students in different sections.

The books in our library deal often with the history of the GDR, the political situation or the situation of the people who lived in the GDR. Often the events of the Fall of the Wall or the Stasi are the topics. But beside these books, there are also books of GDR authors which were translated into English. This time I want to present you the book “No Place on earth”, a novel written by Christa Wolf.

Since the establishment of the GDR the state exert influence on the arts and cultural sector. An important photographer, which got to feel this state control several times, was Sibylle Bergemann, who nevertheless succeeded to find her own artistic path in the GDR and to go it beyond all limits.

Last Friday I was invited to the premiere of the play "Haunting under the Ferris Wheel", which we are sponsoring this year. Venue is the Spreepark Plänterwald, which lies waste these days and is no longer used as an amusement park. Nevertheless, there are still old rides, houses and figures that are slowly reclaimed by nature.

The central ceremonies in remembrance of the Wall's victims and theconstruction of the Wall on the 13th August 1961 took place at the Wall'smemorial place Bernauer Straße in Berlin. There was also a so-called"Info-mile of contemporary history" where many institutions of historicalreprocessing introduced themselves. The visitors were invited to strollaround the place and to catch up at different information booths.
