„Crumpled City" ... never heard of it? I didn't know about the conception either until a few days ago. Now, that this incomparable city map lies on my desk, I am completely excited. It is a city map of Berlin which isn't printed on traditional paper, but on a sort of "paper foil". This foil has specific characteristics - and one of the most important features is that you can crumple it without quality loss!

For those who follow our programme of events regularly, will certainly have known about yesterday's event at the GDR restaurant Domklause: the audience enjoyed the great performance "Between Jägerschnitzel and Schlagersüßtafel".

Exactly six years and four days ago the DDR Museum opened! This might not be such a long time for a museum but since I am one of the very first employees at the museum, this is an opportunity to look back at my personal highlights.

The other day, I found an interesting book in our special library at the visitor centre. It attracted my attention because of its colourful cover with the title "Berlin Wall Art".So I browsed through the book a bit and decided to write a blog entry about it.

Dear visitors of the DDR Museum, dear guests of the GDR restaurant Domklause. Unfortunately, at the moment there are many guests in Berlin - and also in our immediate surroundings - who are addressed by beggars. They ask for money, empty bottles (deposit bottles) or cigarettes, often very pushy. More recently, the beggars also ask for donations for deaf-dumb or similar organisations with dubious donation lists whose existence must be highly doubted. The police has got those lists already and investigates. Apparently, the beggars are part of gangs.

This clutching film deals with the formation and development of dissident groups in the GDR between 1949 until 1989.It is a documentary that shows the historical and social conditions of the political system in the GDR and how this social reality left a mark on the citizens.

From tomorrow, you will get the opportunity to pop in at our exhibition stand in hall 12.101 at the ITB!After my colleague Mr. Klötzke and I had driven to the fairground in our "small runabout" with our flyers, pieces of information, biros, postcards, bags etc. on Tuesday and had stored everything away, my colleagues including me are featured on the Berlin Stars exhibition stand since Wednesday.

Last Saturday, the 30th Lange Nacht der Museen („Long Night of the Museums") took place. In spite of freezing temperatures and onset of winter we opened our museum until 2.00am again this year. Many night owls who are interested in culture took the opportunity to visit the Berlin museums at a late hour and to get an impression of how the different institutions presented themselves.

Sometimes, we in the office are very lucky to taste new dishes from the GDR restaurant Domklause. When the restaurant manager mentioned that there's gonna be home-made apple strudel tomorrow, there was great professional interest. ;)

Mark Scheppert began writing his stories in 2008 and he intended to write something new and unique about the GDR representative for his generation and not existing so far. Now he published the e-book "Generation Wall".

Today started with good news! The DDR Museum with its second permanent exhibition is nominated again for the "European Museum of the Year Award" and of course, the joy is great! This nomination is a particular praise to all of us who worked so hard last year to implement the extension of the DDR Museum and the new permanent exhibition's concept.
