The in the GDR widespread MIFA folding bikes were often targets of ridicule and a lot of people didn't take them seriously. "You sit on it looking like a real fool" was a common opinion about the driving comfort of the little bikes from Sangerhausen. That the folding bikes weren't really popular in the years after the Wende, you could see on the East German roadsides: countless bikes landed on the skip. Often they were brand-new...But, these times seem to be over. In the meanwhile the folding bike becomes a cult object, especially young persons and hipster in the cities like the bikes.

My name is Michael Geithner; I was born in 1985 in a comfy village near Zwickau. For a short while I can call me the social media manager of the DDR Museum, because in the last years the extent of activities on the social platforms rose in a way that I can in addition support the work in this field.

Even the first test was successful. My "Big Plan" is sold in the station bookstore on Alexanderplatz. Brightly colored and sealed properly. It is the third book of a GDR trilogy, which you can buy individually or as a set. Since 20years, the writing of these books has kept me in suspense.

Last Friday I was invited to the premiere of the play "Haunting under the Ferris Wheel", which we are sponsoring this year. Venue is the Spreepark Plänterwald, which lies waste these days and is no longer used as an amusement park. Nevertheless, there are still old rides, houses and figures that are slowly reclaimed by nature.

Already shortly before 6pm, the first visitors waited impatiently with their tickets of the Lange Nacht der Museen ("Long Night of the Museums"). I can understand that - everyone who wants to visit several museums that night, has a tight schedule!

Again and again, we are pleased about the feedback from teachers and pupils, lecturers and students regarding their visit to the DDR Museum. Whether it's a compliment or critisicm, questions or suggestions, suggested improvement... Or just a "thank you" for providing the people, who want to equip others with knowledge, a medium with a sometimes playful nature that facilitates giving even students unwilling to learn an understanding of the topic.
