We have a new cow inside the exhibition! Our old cow was teaching our visitors about the agricultural cooperative societies and the forced collectivization in the German Democratic Republic for years. Everyone was allowed, to touch and open the cow...with what kind of cow can you do this?! Our old cow never complained about that! Nevertheless, it was the time to retire it. A new and modern cow replaced it and is now waiting for the curious hands and eyes of our visitors.

History is influenced by important human decisions and there were a lot of decisions in 1989. Today, I would like to recommand you a book written by Jens Schöne. "The Peaceful Revolution" was published in 2009 by the Berlin Story Verlag. This publishing house published some interesting books about the GDR in english, like the illustrated book "When there was still an east" by Udo Hesse, "The Berlin Wall 1961 - 1989" by the Landesarchiv Berlin or "The Peaceful Revolution" by Jens Schöne.

2009 is gone, but it was a very good year for the museum. 398.592 people from all over the world had a hands-on experience of history during their visit of the DDR Museum.

The Times published an interesting and informative article about a very well known symbol of the GDR: The "Ampelmännchen". This little green man is a traffic light symbol, which was common in the GDR and "survived" the reunification. You do not understand, why the "Ampelmännchen" is so special? A special highlight of the last few days was the visit of a unit of the German armed forces. The group comes from the Dahme-Spree-Barracks and they do not only wanted to visit the DDR Museum. Before they got their guided tour, which was planned within the framework of a political educational trip, they donated a tapestry, which is in a very good condition.
