The GDR Guide offers a glimpse into the life of a bygone state along 160 pages. 42 chapters, more than 200 photographs and comprehensive information material depict everyday life in the GDR in a colorful and detailed way.

The diverting book is therefore the perfect companion for visiting the permanent exhibition of the DDR Museum. The texts were written by our director Robert Rückel, the scientific director Dr. Stefan Wolle and Dr. Jochen Voit, director of the memorial place Andreasstraße in Erfurt, belonging to the Ettersberg Foundation.

With the help of the directory you can find all of the topics even more easily in the exhibition. However, the catalogue also offers a good introduction to the topic GDR and can therefore be used for the preparation or a wrap-up of your museum visit. Accordingly, teachers can already effectively use the GDR guide during their lessons and, for example, incorporate charts, original documents and sketches into history or politics classes.

You can purchase the exhibition catalogue directly at the museum shop or you can also order it online. We also gladly offer all teachers and educators a free copy. You can request it directly by dialing 030 – 847123 or via e-mail: besucherbetreuung@ddr-museum.de.
