Long Night of the Museums: Lipsi, GDR-Cocktails and lots of music!

Tomorrow evening Die Lange Nacht der Museen ("The Long Night of the Museums") starts at 6 pm. Until 2 am it will be absolutely busting at the museum. Surely, we always have many visitors but Die Lange Nacht der Museen is always something very special for everyone.

Especially the atmosphere is unique. DJ Albi is playing GDR music the whole night, there are cocktails and beers and Lipsi dancing lessons twice which was a former East German dance. Cheerfulness is in the air. The whole team is at the museum and several visitors only come by to drink a cocktail together... some even the fourth or fifth year in a row! Surely it is quite bustling in this evening, but why not?

I remember very well how my colleagues and I used to mix the GDR cocktails on our own behind an improvised bar. It was quite narrow behind the counter. But since then I can prepare Moulin Rouge and Grüne Wiese - and even draw beer! :) Since the extension last October and the reopening of the DDR restaurant Domklause professionals are now at work. We used to be quite slow, also because of the constant chats with the guests. The colleagues of the Domklause on the other hand are absolutely quick but still charming. Therefore we are free to care about the order of events... and about the natter with the guests. :)

Like always there will be GDR meals for the small or big appetite in the Domklause: Hot dogs with ketchup, hamburgers... we have everything! As you can see, our guests (and we) are well accommodated. Hopefully the weather is going to play along - this Summer we cannot be too sure of it...

Yesterday we did a sightseeing of the place with Ms Nimtsch from the dance school "taktlos". We showed her the Domklause and talked about the order of the Lipsi dancing lessons at 8 pm and 10 pm. After every dancing lesson there will be a Lipsi dancing contest and the winning pair will get a voucher for dancing lessons! Who feels like joining in can give in their name at DJ Albi. Depending on how crowded it will be tomorrow, we also might shake a leg on the dancefloor. However, this really depends on how many guests take part in the dancing lessons because of course our visitors have priority!

If you cannot join us: Listen to Radio Eins from 7 am on! There will be a lottery for the Lipsi where you can also win free dancing lessons at "taktlos" or two free tickets for the DDR Museum. Or you could go to the open day of the dance school on the 16th September 2011. There you can visit a free taster course from 8.30 pm on.

To everyone who owns a smartphone we can recommend the app for Die Lange Nacht der Museen by the Peter Delius Verlag. It is for free and very useful to plan your very own Lange Nacht. There is a register with all participating museums and also of the bus routes, you can look for events or take part at a social media photo competition. You see - the app contains loads of useful functions, and this for free. I think this is a great deal!

Finally I want to declare an invitation: Just stop by at our place. It does not matter if you plan a whole tour through Die Lange Nacht der Museen or just have a GDR cocktail and a hot dog with ketchup: We are on the spot! And if you want to click glasses with us: Just ask. :)

P.S.: Please keep in mind: From 6 pm until 2 am tomorrow only the tickets for Die Lange Nacht der Museen in the DDR Museum are valid, you cannot buy a single ticket for our museum during this timeframe. But from Sunday 10 am on you can visit us as normal.
