We call again all hobby and mobile phone photographers to overheat their cameras and take some nice photos around the GDR.
Last year, we already organized a small competition on our photo platform Instagram, where a typical GDR object should be photographed. You could win then the picture book “DDR in Color”. This time the winner will again get a book full of great pictures: “Ost-Cola”.
“Ost-Cola” is a photo book of Mathias Knoppe. He studied photography in the middle of the 80ies in Brandenburg and discovered lately a whole closet with his long forgotten negatives. Shortly before he wanted to discard it, he looked in it once again and found a treasure of approximately 10.000 photos, which document the GDR everyday life in Brandenburg an der Havel in a unique way. From the perspective of a student you experience the city and its environment, see Knoppes’ friends with their fashionable hairstyles and extravagant clothes and witness the GDR from an innocent, but quite watchful perspective. Beside Knoppe Hans Hoffmann and Alexander Pollok could publish their photos in this picture book.
Meanwhile the first edition of 1000 exemplars of the book is, except for individual copies, sold out. But one of them can be obtained from us. And so it works:
Take a photo about the GDR (an object, a piece of furniture, clothes, dance, all you can imagine)
Mark the photo with @ddrmuseum or #ddrmuseum; already taken photos can be marked in the comment
You’ve got time till the 20th of February. After that an internal jury will select four photos, of which our communities on Facebook, Google+, Twitter, Pinterest, Instagram and tumblr will decide, who should win.
Still got questions? Write us on one of the below linked platforms.
