The Last Months of the GDR
After the first free votes for the “Volkskammer” (parliament) on the 18th of May 1990, a government came to power with the aim to abolish itself. The German reunification should be established, preferably in two years. No one suspected, that the process of the reunifacation only took some months. Many people were overstrained. Events came thick and fast, the economy collapsed after a fast monetary union. The governing coalation broke up, conflicts about ownership and the state security of the GDR arouse. The author Ed Stuhler will discuss the last months of the GDR with Matthias Gehler, the government spokesment of the last GDR government.

Book premiere and discussion with Stefan Zahlmann and Chrstoph Classen.
Like in the West, but Different
The media in the GDR – like in the west, but different. This book shows, that the western media was recognizable in the GDR media. Further, the book poses the question of freedom of opinion in the German Democratic Republic and explains the ambiguity of mass media in the GDR. The editor and former tour guide of the DDR Museum, Stefan Zahlmann will present his book and will discuss with Christoph Classen, a historian from the Zentrum für zeithistorische Forschung, Potsdam.
