Not everyone in Berlin still knows what a "Niethose" or a "Rennpappe" is. As of now you will see these and other terms from GDR times rolling along the S-Bahn tracks – for there is an S-Bahn driving around designed in the DDR Museum look!
After laminating the outside of the train cars was not allowed for a long time, this mobile form of advertising has become possible again recently in many cities in Germany. This is a chance the DDR Museum does not want to miss so we decided to design an S-Bahn rail car with "our style"!
The outside of the S-Bahn is inviting the viewer to reflect but also wants to trigger some smiles! You will see selected slogans, pictures and citations from the GDR both inside and outside of the rail car which will bring the history of the GDR a little bit closer to the passengers.
Speaking of smiles: Our Social Media intern Alexandra Wallner was inspired to create a little "Ode to the S-Bahn":
Sometimes we are standing in the rain,
then you arrive - like a true blessing.
In summer you often make us sweat -
whether we run after you or just sit inside your cars.
If someone‘s asking
what we enjoy doing with you:
There are a lot of things.
For example: Read a book
and giggle very quietly,
so the other passengers won‘t get upset.
Dear Berlin S-Bahn,
we love your new dress and you look so irresistible,
for the future, we are hoping to drive with you as often as possible.
The S-Bahn is on tour in the name of the DDR Museum since this morning. The colors of the museum, white and blue, are creating a unique appearance on the tracks of Berlin. When entering the rail cars you will furthermore see information about the museum such as location or contact possibilities in order to pass the time – so keep your eyes wide open!
